Pledges $17 Million to Combat Gender-based Violence, $3 Million for Female Police Force

August 11, 2009, Goma, DRC -United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited International Medical Corps operations in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Tuesday, a region devastated by more than a decade of conflict and displacement, and pledged an additional $17 million in support for victims of sexual and gender-based violence, and $3 million to form a female police force.

WESTPORT, Conn. (June 1, 2009) - Save the Children is addressing acute water shortages and other needs endangering many of the approximately 9 million people affected by Cyclone Aila, which hit southwestern Bangladesh and eastern India on May 25 and killed close to 300 people.
