Global Impact Charities Commemorate International Women’s Day
March 8, 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women that focuses on raising awareness about the critical issues facing women and girls around the world.
Global Impact charities such as Save the Children and Mercy Corps serve as examples of organizations that have focused on raising the status of women globally. Their work was recently mentioned in a New York Times article by reporter, and author of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, Nicholas Kristof.

Also as part of the anniversary event, Women for Women International sponsored a worldwide campaign called “Join Me on the Bridge” to unite women in a global peace movement. CARE held “Half the Sky” events in 500 movie theaters nationwide and recognized the anniversary with a premiere of “Woinshet,” a short film which chronicles the struggles of an Ethiopian woman who triumphs over violence and discrimination.
