Pascal Raveloson works at CARE , a member of Global Impact’s charity alliance , as Distribution Coordinator. His days are spent delivering lifesaving services to survivors of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. Raveloson reported “In the beginning, we worked around the clock bringing aid to survivors. Within a week, we were delivering mattresses, waterproof tarps and hygiene kits, followed by a large scale distribution of food to more than 24,000 families.”
Pascal’s CARE team strives to respect each person’s human dignity and to ensure that elderly people and pregnant women do not have to wait for supplies and food in the hot sun. To date, CARE has reached more than 310,000 people with aid.
“Our staff works tirelessly despite the deep personal losses many have endured. One of our warehouse workers lost his wife. He is alone with his little girl and even had to borrow a pair of shoes to come to work. We are dedicated to helping people stay healthy and have adequate shelter. We will know we’ve succeeded when people no longer need aid and can build their own future and that of the country.”
Five months after the disaster that all but wiped out Haiti’s capital and many outlying areas, CARE’s full-time staff of nearly 300 humanitarian workers continues its daily outreach. People are rebuilding their lives with courage and fortitude. CARE has been working hand in hand with the people of Haiti for more than 55 years and is committed for the long term.
